A very rare Didrachm from the C. Gillet Collection ('Kunstfreund', 1879-1972)

SICILY. Syracuse. Deinomenid Tyranny, 485-466 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 21 mm, 8.44 g, 4 h), circa 480-478. Nude horseman riding to right, leading a second horse to his left. Rev. ΣVR-AϘOΣION Head of Arethusa to right, wearing diadem adorned with acorn pendants, single pendant earring and necklace; around, three dolphins swimming clockwise; all within shallow circular incuse. Boehringer 50 (V28/R33). Boston MFA 333 (same dies). Gillet 533 (this coin). HGC 2, 1351. Rizzo pl. XXXIV, 15 (same dies). SNG München 923 (same dies). Very rare and nicely toned. Some scratches and digs and with a flan fault (or traces of overstriking?) on the obverse, otherwise, about very fine.
